The Garden Centre Group has created a new and exciting Management Trainee Programme to enhance career progression within garden centre management.
This innovative programme is open to enthusiastic people who are passionate about plants and gardening and who would welcome the opportunity to build a career in garden centre management with us.
Management Trainee Programme - Nationwide
The first stage of the programme lasts 12 months and develops trainee horticultural knowledge and skills. Highly structured, the programme focuses on the following areas:
1. Plant area
2. Shop floor
3. Customer service
4. Cash administration
5. Stock administration
6. People and team management
Practical experience will be gained over the 12 month period in the following disciplines and areas:
1. Secondment to various garden centres within the group
2. Secondment to various nurseries within the group
3. Project work
4. Management skills training
5. Slough support centre
6. Specialised training
Various marked coursework projects form an integral part of the programme.
Regular monthly meetings take place with the trainee’s garden centre manager for help, advice and general supervision, whilst progress is reviewed every two months by the Horticultural Development Manager.
On successful completion of the programme, management trainees can apply for a Horticultural/Shop Manager position at one of our garden centres. Progress and development will continue to be monitored and mentored until trainees reach the position of Garden Centre Manager.
